Soccer Weekend at Creve Coeur Complex - Where to Stay

We will be at the Creve Coeur Soccer Complex Friday to Sunday for a few soccer games. We are driving in from Michigan. Suggestions on a good place /neighborhood to stay? Also, we will have some downtown and intend to drive into St. Louis to visit the Basilica Cathedral. Where else should we walk around downtown?

For a weekend centered around soccer games at the Creve Coeur Soccer Complex, it’s best to stay somewhere with easy access to Creve Coeur while still allowing a convenient drive into downtown St. Louis for sightseeing. Creve Coeur is located in the western suburbs, about 20-25 minutes from downtown, so staying in nearby neighborhoods or central West County can reduce travel time to the complex while keeping you within reach of the city.

Recommended areas to stay:

  • Creve Coeur / West County: Hotels in this area, such as the Drury Inn & Suites or Embassy Suites, offer quick access to the soccer complex and major highways. This area is quieter, family-friendly, and convenient for early morning games.
  • Chesterfield: Slightly further west, Chesterfield has a range of chain hotels and restaurants, providing more options and still an easy drive to Creve Coeur and downtown.
  • Clayton / Central West End: Closer to downtown (15-20 minutes), this neighborhood has boutique hotels, walkable dining, and a nice atmosphere. It’s ideal if you plan to spend more time exploring downtown and the cultural attractions.

For your downtown visit, the Basilica Cathedral (Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis) is a must-see with its stunning mosaics. Afterward, consider walking around the following nearby areas and attractions:

  • Forest Park: A large urban park with walking paths, the Saint Louis Art Museum, the Missouri History Museum, and the Saint Louis Zoo. Great for a relaxed stroll and sightseeing.
  • Downtown / Gateway Arch area: Walk around the Gateway Arch grounds, enjoy riverfront views, or take a riverboat cruise. You can also explore Laclede’s Landing for restaurants and historic buildings.
  • Central West End: If staying near Clayton or the CWE, enjoy tree-lined streets with cafes, shops, and historic architecture. It’s a nice alternative to the busier downtown area.

Tips for your weekend:

  • Book hotels early, especially if your visit coincides with sports events or weekends, as availability can be limited.
  • Traffic can be heavier around downtown St. Louis, so plan extra time if driving into the city for sightseeing or evening activities.
  • If you want to combine family time with sightseeing, consider spending one full day downtown and using the other day for nearby attractions or rest before games.

In summary, staying near Creve Coeur or in West County provides convenience for soccer games, while a hotel in Clayton or the Central West End balances proximity to downtown sightseeing. Combining visits to the Basilica Cathedral, Forest Park, Gateway Arch, and Laclede’s Landing offers a rich experience of St. Louis on foot without being overly strenuous.
