Baldwin area with a toddler?

My 2.5 year old and I might be traveling with my husband for work in another week or so to the Ballwin, MO area for 2-3 days (so it would be in December). I don’t know much about this area at all but looking for ideas about things to do for a couple days (my roller and I) while my husband works? With weather/temps I’m assuming indoor things! Bonus if it doesn’t mean driving downtown/stressful driving since it would just be the two of us! 😊 Anything specific for the Christmas season? (I looked and the Jingle event option said snow tubing was only for 3 years and older.) Any recommendations for safe, toddler friendly options are much appreciated!! Thank you!!

Ballwin, MO, is a suburb of St. Louis, so driving downtown isn’t necessary for most activities. Since you’ll be traveling in December with a toddler, focusing on indoor and low-stress activities is a great idea. There are several local options that are safe, toddler-friendly, and festive for the Christmas season.

Here are some suggestions for indoor activities close to Ballwin:

  • Magic House, St. Louis Children’s Museum: Located about 20-25 minutes from Ballwin, the Magic House is perfect for toddlers and offers interactive exhibits that allow your child to explore and play safely. There are often seasonal displays during December, including holiday-themed areas and crafts.
  • Shopping Centers with Play Areas: Town & Country Mall or Chesterfield Mall (around 15-20 minutes away) often have indoor play spaces for young children and decorated areas for the holidays. Walking around the holiday displays can be fun and festive without requiring structured activities.
  • Libraries and Storytime: Many local libraries in Ballwin and nearby suburbs offer storytime sessions or toddler activities. This can be a cozy, calm way to spend a morning, and libraries often have small play corners for young children.
  • Indoor Play Spaces: Consider places like Pump It Up in Chesterfield or Monkey Joe’s in nearby suburbs, which are specifically designed for toddlers and young children to safely run and play indoors.

For holiday-specific experiences:

  • Garden Glow at Missouri Botanical Garden: A bit of a drive (around 25-30 minutes), but the light displays are stroller-friendly and magical for young children, perfect for a short evening outing.
  • Local Holiday Events: Check Ballwin and nearby Chesterfield community centers for toddler-friendly holiday crafts, photos with Santa, or small holiday shows. Many communities host low-key Christmas events that are perfect for little ones.
  • Indoor Pools or Recreation Centers: Some local YMCAs or recreation centers offer toddler swim times or small indoor water play areas, which can be great for burning energy on a cold day.

Tips for managing a toddler in Ballwin during December:

  • Keep outings short and flexible, as toddlers can get overstimulated easily.
  • Bring a stroller for convenience, especially for places like Magic House or Garden Glow.
  • Check seasonal hours and special event schedules in advance to avoid disappointments.

Overall, you can have a fun, low-stress visit with your toddler by focusing on interactive indoor play areas, local libraries, community holiday events, and nearby toddler-friendly museums. You don’t need to drive downtown, making it easier to manage your schedule while your husband works.
