trip to Hawaii

Hi

I am thinking of going to Hawaiii this summer for a few days. I know my main point would be to see the historical Pearl harbor National Park.

I have never been to Hawaii or know anything about it. What is the best way to get some travel information about going and all that kind of stuff. Is there a company that could help me plan my trip to Hawaii

Please do let me know

Hi Stephen!

It sounds like you’re planning an exciting trip to Hawaii! Pearl Harbor is a must-see historical site, and there’s so much to explore beyond that. Here are some tips to help you plan your trip:

1. Researching Travel Information: There are many resources available to help you get information on traveling to Hawaii, whether it’s through websites, guidebooks, or travel forums. Some great starting points are:

  • Hawaii Tourism Authority – They offer detailed travel guides, maps, and recommendations for visitors to Hawaii, including specific sections on each island and its attractions.
  • TripAdvisor – You can read reviews, get advice from other travelers, and discover things to do in Hawaii.
  • Lonely Planet or Fodor’s guidebooks – These provide in-depth information on things to see and do, where to stay, and insider tips for first-time visitors.

2. Travel Planning Companies: If you'd like someone to help plan your trip, there are companies and travel agencies that specialize in organizing trips to Hawaii. They can tailor your trip to include flights, hotels, activities, and tours. A few options to consider:

  • Hawaii Aloha Travel – This agency offers customized itineraries for travelers, from accommodations to tours, including Pearl Harbor and other island attractions.
  • Expedia or Travelocity – These online travel agencies can help you book flights, hotels, and activities, often offering packaged deals.
  • Local Travel Agencies in Hawaii – Consider working with a local agent who knows the islands well. They can offer personalized advice and even help you plan experiences that go beyond the typical tourist spots.

3. Exploring Pearl Harbor: Since Pearl Harbor is your main interest, make sure to book your tickets in advance, especially for popular attractions like the USS Arizona Memorial. It’s also worth considering a guided tour to get more historical context and insight. A few things you might want to include in your visit to Pearl Harbor:

  • USS Arizona Memorial – This is the most iconic site at Pearl Harbor, commemorating the attack of December 7, 1941. You can take a boat ride to the memorial and see the sunken battleship.
  • USS Missouri – A historic battleship where Japan formally surrendered in 1945, ending WWII.
  • Pacific Aviation Museum – Located on Ford Island, this museum has fascinating exhibits on WWII aviation history.

4. Other Things to Do in Hawaii: While Pearl Harbor is a major highlight, Hawaii offers a wide range of activities for all types of travelers. Here are some suggestions:

  • Beaches – Hawaii is famous for its beautiful beaches. Waikiki Beach on Oahu is popular for its golden sand and surfing, while other islands have hidden gems like Hanauma Bay (Oahu), or beaches on Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island.
  • Hiking – Hawaii has incredible hiking opportunities, including Diamond Head on Oahu, the Kalalau Trail on Kauai, and the Haleakalā Crater on Maui.
  • Cultural Sites – Visit historic sites like the Bishop Museum in Honolulu, Iolani Palace, and the Polynesian Cultural Center.
  • Volcanoes National Park – If you visit the Big Island, don’t miss the opportunity to see an active volcano at Volcanoes National Park.

5. When to Go: Since you’re planning for summer, keep in mind that it’s a popular travel season, especially in June, July, and August. If you’re looking to avoid the peak summer crowds, you might consider going in late spring (May) or early fall (September-October), when the weather is still great, but it’s less crowded.

6. Accommodations: You’ll want to decide whether to stay in a hotel, resort, or vacation rental (like Airbnb or VRBO). Hawaii offers a range of options, from luxury resorts to more affordable vacation rentals. Oahu has great options near Waikiki Beach, while Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island offer more secluded, nature-focused accommodations if you're looking for something more laid-back.

7. Transportation: Renting a car is highly recommended, especially if you plan to explore the islands beyond the main tourist areas. Public transportation is available, but having a car gives you more flexibility to visit sites at your own pace.
