We will be visiting over Easter with our 6 yo daughter. We have a reservation at Koloa landing and Grand Hyatt. The price of KL and space is ideal (2 br), but I traveled to GH with my family several times as a child and have such wonderful memories there. Is it worth 3x the price for a 1 br ocean view? We can afford it, but of course want to make a good decision. I just can’t imagine visiting Kauai without an ocean view.
We will be there over Easter- our daughter will be hoping for an egg hunt. Is this a possibility?
It’s wonderful that you’re considering both Koloa Landing and the Grand Hyatt for your family’s stay in Kauai over Easter! Both properties offer a great experience, but there are distinct differences in terms of atmosphere, amenities, and overall experience. Let’s break down the pros and cons of each, as well as your questions about Easter activities like the egg hunt.
Koloa Landing vs. Grand Hyatt: It sounds like Koloa Landing (KL) offers excellent value with its 2-bedroom accommodations, which is perfect for a family with a 6-year-old. You’ll get more space for your money, which can be great for enjoying the vacation as a family without feeling cramped. The resort is beautiful, with pools and amenities that would make for a very comfortable stay, and you’re close to the beach. The overall vibe is a bit more relaxed and less “resort-y” compared to the Grand Hyatt, but it’s still very family-friendly.
Grand Hyatt Kauai: The Grand Hyatt is a legendary property with a lot of history and a luxurious feel. You’re correct in that the memories you have from childhood there can make it a special choice for you. However, the price is significantly higher for a 1-bedroom ocean view, which is something to consider, especially if you're balancing that with the value you get at Koloa Landing. The Grand Hyatt is also more of a destination resort, with extensive grounds, beautiful oceanfront views, and several pools, making it an ideal choice if you want a more traditional resort experience with all the bells and whistles.
Is the Ocean View Worth It? Given that the price difference is three times the cost for a 1-bedroom ocean view, it’s ultimately a matter of personal preference. If the ocean view is something that’s truly essential for you and your family’s experience, then it might be worth the splurge. The views at the Grand Hyatt are absolutely beautiful, and the sense of being right on the ocean is something you may cherish for the memories it will create. However, if the main priority is comfort, space, and a more budget-friendly option, Koloa Landing offers fantastic amenities and value with your 2-bedroom condo.
Easter Egg Hunt: Since you’ll be there during Easter, many resorts, including the Grand Hyatt, typically offer Easter-themed activities like an egg hunt, especially for kids. The Grand Hyatt, in particular, is known for offering family-friendly activities, so you can likely expect some kind of Easter celebration, whether it’s an egg hunt or other kid-friendly events like crafts, games, and a special Easter brunch. I would recommend reaching out to the resort ahead of time to confirm the details of their Easter events to ensure your daughter can join in the fun!
Conclusion: If you’re looking for the ultimate resort experience with a focus on luxury and ocean views, the Grand Hyatt could be worth the price, especially for your special memories and the potential Easter activities. However, if you value space, value for money, and a more laid-back vibe, Koloa Landing would be a fantastic choice. Either way, Kauai is beautiful, and both properties will offer great experiences for you and your family!
