Some convenient stops along the route include:
- Hanalei Gourmet – Located in Hanalei town, this is a casual spot with sandwiches, salads, and fresh baked goods. Great for a quick indoor meal or takeout to enjoy in a car if you’re staying dry.
- Bar Acuda – Also in Hanalei, it offers a small plates menu with a focus on local ingredients. Cozy indoor seating makes it a nice spot to wait out a rain shower.
- Kalypso Island Bar & Grill – Near Lihue, it has indoor seating and a mix of seafood and island-inspired dishes. Good mid-way stop if you want a casual sit-down lunch.
- Little Fish Coffee Poipu – As you approach Poipu, this café offers a cozy indoor space with coffee, pastries, and light sandwiches. Perfect for a light lunch or snack while escaping the rain.
- Red Salt at Koa Kea Hotel – If you’d rather stay closer to your final destination, Red Salt offers a stylish indoor setting with fresh seafood and island cuisine. You can enjoy a leisurely meal upon arrival in Poipu.
Tips for a rainy day lunch on Kauai:
- Check opening hours in advance, as some smaller local spots may close between lunch and dinner.
- Consider calling ahead for seating, especially if it’s a weekend or peak season.
- Keep a light snack or water in the car in case a preferred spot is crowded.
Overall, there are multiple options between Hanalei and Poipu, but focusing on Hanalei for early lunch or waiting until you reach Poipu for a more upscale sit-down at Red Salt would be practical and comfortable during the rain.
