Koloa Landing Resort question

Both Costco Travel and Marriotts site lists island view rooms for Koloa Landing Resort. What exactly is the view because they only have island or coastline. I’m thinking it looks out towards the road but have no idea. Thanks!

Koloa Landing Resort on Kauai’s south shore is a large property with multiple buildings arranged around landscaped grounds, pools, and waterways. Understanding the room view categories is important to set expectations.

Regarding the “island view” rooms:

  • “Island view” generally refers to rooms that offer a distant view toward Kauai’s interior or the island mountains rather than direct ocean views.
  • Depending on the building and floor, some island view rooms may look over landscaped areas, pools, or parking areas, with the mountains or other parts of the island in the background.
  • These rooms usually do not face the coastline directly, so while you may see a bit of the ocean from higher floors, the main feature is the island/mountain scenery.

For comparison, “coastline” or “ocean view” rooms are the ones where you have a clear line of sight to the ocean and beachfront, often with sunset views, and typically command a higher rate.

Additional points to consider:

  • If you prioritize ocean views or sunrise/sunset vistas, choosing an “ocean view” or “coastline view” room is recommended rather than an “island view” room.
  • Island view rooms are often quieter, less expensive, and may offer more privacy from the main resort pool and common areas.
  • Some travelers request specific room locations when booking, and Marriott staff can provide guidance based on floor and building placement to maximize mountain or partial ocean views.

In summary, “island view” at Koloa Landing typically overlooks the interior of the island, including mountains and landscaped areas, not the ocean or beachfront directly. If your goal is oceanfront scenery, a coastline or ocean view room is the better choice.
