Overnight at ATL

Hi

It’s possible that I may have an overnight stay in Atlanta in late December and I’m wondering what airport hotel would be most convenient for me. I would be arriving in an international flight from London around 8.30pm and departing around 8 next morning on a domestic to Sarasota (most likely Delta).

I’m hoping to be able to walk to/from the hotel (or at least use airport transport options) however I’ve kind of tied myself in knots trying to work out what’s best. Although I’ve flown into Atlanta airport previously we’ve always picked up a rental car and driven a bit out of town so this is a bit different.

I would really appreciate any insight from those better informed.

Thanks

For your overnight stay at ATL in late December, it’s great that you’re thinking about convenience and proximity to the airport. Luckily, there are a number of hotels near Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport (ATL) that are easily accessible, with convenient transport options or within walking distance from the terminals.

Given that you’ll be arriving in the evening on an international flight and departing early the next morning, I’d recommend considering the following hotels based on their proximity and transport options:

  • Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway – This hotel is a great option as it is directly connected to the airport via a SkyTrain, which is free and runs 24/7. It’s a short ride from the International Terminal (Concourse E) and ideal if you want to avoid the hassle of walking or taking a cab. The hotel also offers a shuttle service, so it’s very convenient for a quick overnight stay.
  • Renaissance Concourse Atlanta Airport Hotel – This hotel is located right next to the airport, and it also offers a free shuttle service. It’s about a 5-minute ride to the terminals, and the convenience of its location makes it a popular choice for travelers with short layovers. It has great amenities, including a restaurant and bar, which could be nice after your flight.
  • Westin Atlanta Airport – The Westin is another convenient option located just a short distance from the airport. It offers a free shuttle service that runs every 15 minutes, and it’s only about 5 minutes away from the terminal. The Westin has comfortable rooms and is well-known for its quality service, making it a solid choice for a one-night stay.
  • Holiday Inn & Suites Atlanta Airport North – A budget-friendly option that’s still very convenient. This hotel also provides a free shuttle service to the airport and is just a 5-minute drive away from the terminals. It’s a good choice if you're looking for something more affordable but still comfortable.
  • Hilton Atlanta Airport – This Hilton is directly across from the airport and is within walking distance, which makes it very convenient. It’s a bit further than the SkyTrain-accessible hotels, but still within a reasonable walking distance (around 10-15 minutes). It has a range of amenities, including a restaurant and bar, and is known for its reliable service.

As for the transport options, all of the above hotels offer airport shuttles, and the SkyTrain (accessible from some hotels like the Marriott Gateway) is a quick and free way to get to and from the airport. Given your international arrival, I’d suggest picking a hotel with a 24/7 shuttle service or one connected to the SkyTrain to ensure smooth access after your flight.

Since you’ll be departing around 8:00 AM for a domestic flight to Sarasota, you’ll likely need to be at the airport by 6:00 AM or earlier, so make sure to confirm shuttle times with your hotel. Most airport hotels have shuttles that run frequently, but it's always good to double-check the schedule, especially during early morning hours.

Overall, I recommend the Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway or the Renaissance Concourse for the most seamless experience, especially if you want to minimize your effort and time walking or taking shuttles. Both options are very close to the airport and offer excellent transport connectivity, ensuring you won’t have any trouble getting to your flight the next day.
