AKA Boston Common vs. Hilton Back Bay

Thanks for any opinion on which you'd choose. This is for two nights next week and the Hilton is $150 less (including both days) overall.

We will not have a car with us.

Looking for most charming part of the city -- and have a feeling AKA is more boutique with a distinctive style and curb appeal than the Back Bay.

Both rooms are similar.

Thank you!

Both the AKA Boston Common and the Hilton Back Bay are great options, but the best choice depends on what you’re prioritizing during your stay in Boston.

Here’s a comparison based on your preferences:

  • AKA Boston Common:

AKA Boston Common is more of a boutique-style property and has a distinctive, upscale feel. It offers apartment-style rooms with kitchens, which can be ideal for longer stays or those who appreciate a home-like atmosphere. The design is modern, stylish, and refined, with a more intimate vibe. If you’re looking for something with character, AKA has curb appeal and stands out as a more boutique, luxurious option. It's also located right next to Boston Common, which is perfect for easy access to charming outdoor spaces, scenic views, and quick access to other key areas like Beacon Hill, the Financial District, and the Theatre District. The location is great for walking around the city, as it’s very central.

  • Hilton Back Bay:

The Hilton Back Bay is a large, well-known hotel chain, located in the Back Bay neighborhood. This area is lovely, but it's a bit more commercial and less "boutique" than the AKA. However, the Hilton offers excellent value, especially since it's $150 less for the entire stay. The Back Bay is an iconic area with beautiful brownstones, upscale shops on Newbury Street, and cultural institutions like the Museum of Fine Arts and Symphony Hall. It’s an excellent area for walking, but it’s a bit further from the Common compared to AKA. Since you don’t have a car, it’s important to note that while the Hilton is a bit more spread out, it’s still close to the T (subway), making it convenient to travel around the city.

If you’re looking for a more “charming” area to stay, AKA Boston Common might be the better choice for its central location and boutique hotel atmosphere. It’s close to charming spots like Beacon Hill and the Common, and you’ll get that unique Bostonian feel. On the other hand, if you don’t mind being a little further from the Common and appreciate value for money, the Hilton Back Bay offers a solid, comfortable experience and places you in a charming, upscale neighborhood with easy access to shops and cultural attractions.

Since both rooms are similar, the decision really comes down to the vibe you want for your stay. If the difference in price ($150) matters, Hilton is a fantastic option, especially if you plan to explore the city on foot or via public transportation. However, if the boutique experience and the charm of being close to Boston Common are more important to you, then AKA is a great choice.

Hope this helps, and enjoy your time in Boston!
