Where to stay?? Private Apartments - 3 adults & 1 child (6)

Hi,

We're planning on coming over next May to do Universal, Kennedy Space Centre, I Drive etc. as we came over last year and did Disney but not much else. I want to stay somewhere that is close to restaurants, has a nice pool and has a general vibe/something going on. I have been looking at Margaritaville but I think that is too far out. I have also been looking at Vista Cay Resort. Does anyone have any opinions on this resort or have any other suggestions?

I don't really want to do a hotel as you don't tend to get as much space or a balcony.

Thanks :)

For your trip to Orlando in May with 3 adults and 1 child, staying in a private apartment or resort-style condo is a great choice since it offers more space, a kitchen, and often a balcony or patio compared to a traditional hotel. Since you want to be near restaurants, have a nice pool, and enjoy a lively atmosphere, here are some detailed suggestions:

Vista Cay Resort:

Vista Cay is located near the Orange County Convention Center and is close to International Drive, giving you easy access to restaurants, shops, and attractions like Universal Orlando. It’s a resort-style complex with apartment-style units, pools, and some family-friendly amenities.

  • Pros: Apartment layouts with full kitchens, balconies, on-site pool, convenient to I-Drive attractions.
  • Cons: Some guests note it can feel quiet compared to areas like Disney Springs or Margaritaville; not as “lively” as some other resorts.

Other Private Apartment/Resort Options:

  • Bahama Bay Resort: Located closer to Disney but still accessible to I-Drive. Spacious condos, multiple pools, and a family-friendly vibe with activities.
  • Windsor Hills Resort: Offers luxury condos with pools, splash areas, and proximity to Disney. More geared toward family activities than nightlife.
  • Encantada Resort: On the US-192 corridor, convenient for multiple attractions, with townhouse-style condos, private balconies, and a large pool area.
  • Margaritaville Resort Orlando: Slightly further from I-Drive but very lively with restaurants, bars, pools, and entertainment. If you don’t mind a 15–20 minute drive, it’s very social and fun.
  • Reunion Resort: Upscale villas and condos with pools, golf, and family amenities. More exclusive and luxurious, but further from I-Drive restaurants.

Tips for Choosing:

  • Check for on-site pools and kid-friendly features like splash pads or playgrounds.
  • Consider proximity to grocery stores and restaurants to make meal planning easier.
  • Read recent reviews for noise levels and community vibe; some resorts are quieter, others more lively.
  • Book early for May, as it’s a popular travel month in Orlando.

Overall, Vista Cay Resort is a solid choice for convenience and apartment-style living, but if you want a more “happening” environment, consider Margaritaville or one of the larger vacation home communities with shared amenities and more social spaces.
