Best snorkel/beach chair rental vendor

We'll be in maui June 4-13 and have planned a few down days to enjoy the beach/nearshore snorkeling. We do not have our own equipment. We're staying in Kaanapali. Are there local weekly beach chair/snorkel rental vendors nearby the Ashton Kanaapali Shores resort? Any you'd recommend over others? Thanks.

Kaanapali is one of the easiest areas on Maui for renting snorkel gear, beach chairs, umbrellas, and full beach kits. Since you’ll be staying at Aston Kaanapali Shores, you’re in a great location—there are several reputable vendors within walking distance or a 2–5 minute drive. Weekly rentals usually offer the best value, and many companies allow you to pick up, swap sizes, or get replacements if needed throughout your stay.

Below are the best and most convenient options near your resort, along with what makes each one stand out.

  • Snorkel Bob’s – Kaanapali
One of Maui’s most established snorkel rental companies, located about 3 minutes from Aston Kaanapali Shores. They offer weekly snorkel sets, prescription masks, reef-safe sunscreen, and high-quality fins. They also rent beach chairs, umbrellas, and even GoPro-style cameras. Their gear is consistently well maintained, and they provide swaps or adjustments anytime during your rental.
  • The Snorkel Store – Kaanapali
Located very close to your resort and widely praised for customer service. They offer affordable weekly packages that include snorkel gear, premium beach chairs, umbrella, and cooler bundles. They take time to fit the masks properly and provide snorkeling safety briefings, plus their equipment quality tends to be higher than budget beachfront stands. A top pick for long stays.
  • Boss Frog’s – Honokowai
Just a short walk or 2-minute drive north of your resort. Easy walk-in rentals, simple pickup process, and very competitive weekly pricing. They also offer one-day or multi-day chair and umbrella rentals. A great choice if you want quick, no-frills service with reliable gear.
  • Aston Kaanapali Shores Beach Rental Hut (onsite vendor)
Your resort typically has a beach activities stand on-site, which rents chairs and umbrellas conveniently—but these options are usually more expensive and geared toward daily rentals rather than weekly. For snorkel gear, standalone shops nearby offer better pricing and higher-quality masks/fins. Convenient for last-minute needs, but not the best value for a weeklong stay.

If you’re planning several beach days and want the easiest all-in-one setup, The Snorkel Store is especially popular because of their weekly packages and friendly staff. Snorkel Bob’s is a very close second—excellent for mask sizing, safety, and equipment quality.

For snorkel spots near Kaanapali, consider Kahekili Beach Park (north Kaanapali), Black Rock, or Airport Beach—each offering easy entry, fish-filled reefs, and calm conditions most mornings. Whichever rental vendor you choose, morning snorkeling (before the winds pick up) is ideal.

Any of the vendors listed above will provide solid, dependable gear for a comfortable and enjoyable week on Maui’s beaches.
