water

This is a weird Q, but I thought I'd ask anyways because this community is so supportive.

When we went to Honolulu, I had plans to buy water bottles from Costco. But I was surprised to see our Hyatt Place had water refilling stations, and they also gave us 2 plastic bottles to fill water. I was also able to find water refilling stations at other parts of the island.

At Maui, we will be staying at Residence Inn. Do I expect similar arrangement there and Maui wrt refilling stations? Or should I be ready to head to Costco for water?

It's great that you had a positive experience with water refill stations in Honolulu! As for Maui, you may find similar arrangements, but it can vary depending on where you're staying and the specific locations you visit. Here’s some detailed info on what you can expect:

Water Refill Stations at Hotels

Many hotels and resorts in Hawaii are becoming more eco-conscious and offering water refill stations to reduce plastic waste. While it’s not guaranteed at every location, it’s becoming more common in mid- to high-end hotels. For your stay at the Residence Inn in Maui, it's possible that they have water refill stations or will offer you refillable bottles, especially if the hotel is part of a larger chain that promotes sustainability. However, it's best to call ahead to confirm this with the property directly.

Costco for Water

If water refill stations aren't available at your hotel, Costco is definitely a great option to stock up on water bottles during your stay. Maui has a Costco location in Kahului, which is convenient for visitors. You can buy large packs of water or more sustainable options like large refillable bottles or jugs.

Alternative Water Sources in Maui

  • Public Water Refill Stations: Maui has made efforts to reduce plastic usage, and you may find water refill stations in some public areas such as shopping centers or certain attractions. Some beaches or parks might also have water refill stations or public drinking fountains.
  • Supermarkets: If you can’t find a refill station at your hotel or don’t want to go to Costco, you can always pick up water bottles from local grocery stores like Safeway, Foodland, or Times Supermarket. Many of these stores carry bottled water or refillable bottles.
  • Water Delivery Services: If you’re looking for a large supply of water during your stay, you can consider ordering water delivery through local services. Some companies offer home delivery of water bottles or larger jugs, which might be more convenient if you're staying for an extended period.

Conclusion

While the Residence Inn may or may not offer water refill stations or complimentary water bottles, it's worth checking with the hotel directly to find out. If not, Costco and other local stores are great alternatives. Regardless of what you choose, you’ll likely find plenty of options on Maui to stay hydrated and reduce plastic use during your trip!
