Decent hotel for night before cruise
We have a group of eight of us going on a cruise April 11th. We need a hotel the night before, as we're flying in from Maine. We usually have no problem finding a hotel to stay at for the night before, but we've never cruised out of Miami before so having a little bit of a hard time. We always prefer the Hilton brand though it's not a deal breaker to stay somewhere else. The trouble we're having is that so many of the hotels around the cruise port have questionable reviews. We don't need anything terribly fancy just clean and insect free. We also need there to be a bar and restaurant open before dinner. Does anyone have any suggestions? I suppose we're open to staying near the airport versus the port if that makes it easier?
For a group of eight flying into Miami and needing a hotel the night before a cruise, you have a few practical options depending on whether you want to stay near the cruise port or near the airport. Since you prefer Hilton properties, I’ll focus on those, but I’ll also include alternatives that are convenient, clean, and have on-site dining and bars.
Hotels near the Port of Miami:
- Hilton Miami Downtown – Convenient for port access, modern, clean, and has a restaurant and bar on-site. You can arrange transport to the cruise port easily, either by taxi or rideshare. Good reviews for cleanliness and service.
- Kimpton EPIC Hotel – Not a Hilton, but upscale, very clean, has multiple restaurants and bars, and is only a short drive to the cruise port. Large enough to accommodate your group across a few rooms.
- InterContinental Miami – Another non-Hilton option, modern, centrally located, easy access to the port, with an on-site restaurant and bar. Highly rated for cleanliness and comfort.
Hotels near Miami International Airport (MIA):
- Hilton Miami Airport – Ideal if you prefer to be very close to the airport. Clean, good on-site restaurant and bar, and shuttles are available to MIA. Travel time to the port is around 20-25 minutes by taxi or rideshare.
- Conrad Miami (Hilton Luxury Brand) – In downtown Miami near the airport and about a 15-20 minute drive to the port. Upscale, modern, has on-site dining and bars, and a reputation for cleanliness.
- DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Miami Airport & Convention Center – Offers clean rooms, on-site dining, and bar options. Convenient for airport arrivals and reasonably close to the port.
Tips for your stay:
- Book early, especially for a cruise departure date, as hotels fill quickly.
- Consider requesting adjoining or multiple rooms close together for your group.
- Airport hotels are often quieter and easier for check-in after a flight; port-area hotels save travel time to the cruise in the morning.
- Arrange a rideshare or taxi to the port for early embarkation; it’s usually easier than relying on hotel shuttles which may have limited hours.
- Check recent reviews for cleanliness and pest control, as Miami-area hotels can vary during peak cruise season.
In summary, if you want to stick with Hilton, the Hilton Miami Downtown or Hilton Miami Airport are your best bets for convenience, cleanliness, and having a bar/restaurant. If you’re open to other brands, the Kimpton EPIC or InterContinental in downtown provide very comfortable alternatives very close to the port.
