The Dingding Gate Ruins, a World Cultural Heritage site, was the main gate of the outer city wall of Luoyang, the capital during the Sui, Tang, and Wu Zhou dynasties. Named Jianguo Gate in the early Sui Dynasty and renamed Dingding Gate during the Tang Dynasty, it is located on the central axis of Luoyang during the Sui and Tang dynasties. Emperor Yang of Sui built the Eastern Capital Luoyang and relocated the capital there the following year, becoming the first emperor to pass through Dingding Gate. Subsequently, Dingding Gate served as the main gate of Luoyang's outer city wall during the Tang, Later Liang, Later Tang, Later Zhou, and Northern Song dynasties, ultimately falling into disuse in the late Northern Song Dynasty. Dingding Gate served as the main gate on the southern wall of the outer city wall for 530 years, making it the longest-used ancient capital city gate discovered in my country.
On the morning of October 30, 2009, the Dingding Gate Ruins Museum of the Sui and Tang Luoyang City, a key national heritage site preservation project, officially opened, marking the rebirth of the remains of one of my country's longest-used ancient capital city gates. After a millennium spent underground, this longest-used ancient capital city gate finally "reappeared" above ground.
On June 22, 2014, the Dingdingmen Ruins were officially included in the World Heritage List as one of the sites in the Silk Road project jointly declared by China, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
