International arrival question
Do I go thru security after PP control? I can’t ever remember but think that is standard now
When you arrive at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) on an international flight, here's how the process generally works:
- Immigration (Passport Control): After you deplane, your first step is going through immigration, also known as passport control. This is where you present your passport and any necessary documentation (like a visa or ESTA if applicable). Once you've cleared immigration, you will be allowed to enter the United States.
- Baggage Claim: After clearing immigration, you'll proceed to baggage claim to pick up your checked luggage, if applicable.
- Customs: Once you have your bags, you will go through customs. This process typically involves either a customs officer asking about what you're bringing into the country or using a customs kiosk if available.
- Security After Customs: If you’re connecting to a domestic flight, you will go through security again after customs. This is because you’ve just entered the U.S. and need to be screened again before you can board a connecting domestic flight. However, if you’re not connecting to another flight and you’ve already cleared security at your departure airport, you won’t need to go through security again.
So yes, after clearing immigration and customs, you do go through security if you're connecting to a domestic flight. This is standard procedure at most U.S. airports, including Atlanta.
Hope that helps, and safe travels!
