Best Snorkeling Boat Tour

Returning to the Island in 2 weeks for our 20th Wedding anniversary. We got married at The Four Seasons Hualalai 20 years ago to the day we’ll be there! Rented a cute orange mini cooper convertible!

Looking to do a snorkeling boat tour that’s not overly crowded, especially with tons of kids. We did the Bodyglove one a couple years ago and really enjoyed it. But the snorkeling wasn’t so great. Want a tour that’s goes to Kealakekua Bay but there are so many choices. Any recommendation for one that you loved? Not too crowded and definitely want snacks and a bar lol!

Not interested in the Manta Ray night one. Thank u!

Congratulations on your 20th anniversary! For a snorkeling boat tour on the Big Island, especially targeting Kealakekua Bay, there are several options that cater to adults seeking a more relaxed experience without being overrun by children.

Since you enjoyed the Body Glove but found the snorkeling lacking, consider smaller, boutique tours that focus on quality snorkeling rather than volume of passengers. Kealakekua Bay is fantastic for snorkeling with vibrant coral and abundant fish, so picking a tour that stops there first is ideal.

  • Captain Zodiac Tours: Smaller groups with comfortable seating, snacks, and a bar on board. Known for experienced guides who show the best snorkeling spots and ensure a less crowded experience.
  • Sea Paradise or Hula Kai Catamaran: Offers morning tours to Kealakekua Bay with a small number of guests. Includes snorkeling gear, guided snorkeling, and beverages. Some trips include a light snack and optional bar service after snorkeling.
  • Jack’s Diving Locker (by Hilo): Though slightly further, they operate private or semi-private charters. Very personalized service, great snorkeling, and you can arrange drinks/snacks on board. Good for couples wanting a quieter experience.

Tips to ensure a great experience:

  • Book early since your trip is during a popular time of year and small tours fill up quickly.
  • Opt for a morning tour to avoid crowds; many larger family groups go later in the day.
  • Check the boat size and max passengers—smaller boats generally mean less noise and fewer kids.
  • Confirm if snacks and bar service are included, as some tours require separate payment or bring-your-own options.

Overall, boutique catamaran tours or Zodiac speedboat tours that emphasize small groups and quality snorkeling are your best bet. You’ll have a memorable anniversary with great snorkeling, a relaxed atmosphere, and the opportunity to toast your 20 years in style!
