Need suggestions for (2) days in Honolulu

We will arrive via cruise ship and have 2-full days in Honolulu. We have visited previously, and enjoyed Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, and the Cultural Center on the North side of the island. We kayaked on the east side.

Now, we are looking for some suggestions for "what to do" for our 2-day visit.

On Day 1, we are open to suggestions. possibly a day hike with a view (recommendations?) and a sunset catamaran with local musician?

For Day 2, I am thinking some beach time near a resort that has some fine dining (and possibly airport transfer) .

We can rent a car, or utilize local transportation options. Just don't want to big of a hassle with car rental.

With two full days in Honolulu and previous visits already covering Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, and the North Shore, you have room to explore some alternative hikes, scenic viewpoints, and relaxing beach experiences. Renting a car will give you maximum flexibility, but you can also rely on rideshare for beach or sunset excursions if you prefer not to deal with parking.

Day 1 – Hike and Sunset Catamaran:

For a scenic day hike with rewarding views:

  • Koko Crater Railway Trail: Steep but short hike with panoramic views of Honolulu and the eastern coastline. Great for morning or early afternoon.
  • Makapu’u Lighthouse Trail: Moderate hike along paved paths, stunning views of the southeastern coast and chance to see humpback whales in season.
  • Tantalus / Pu’u Ualaka’a Trail: Gentle hike through lush forest with sweeping views of Honolulu and Waikiki from above; great for photography and sunset prep.

After your hike, a sunset catamaran cruise is a must:

  • Several companies operate from Waikiki offering sunset sails with live local music. Look for options that include drinks and appetizers for a relaxed experience.
  • Reservations are recommended, especially during peak travel times.

Day 2 – Beach Time and Fine Dining:

For a more relaxed day near a resort:

  • Waikiki Beach: Classic, convenient with many nearby resort options and dining choices. You can rent chairs and umbrellas for ease.
  • Hilton Hawaiian Village Lagoon: Offers calm swimming areas and nearby restaurants for a resort-style day.
  • Moana Surfrider: Historic hotel with beachfront access, upscale dining at The Veranda or Beachhouse at the Moana, and convenient proximity to Honolulu airport for departure.

Alternatively, if you want a quieter beach experience:

  • Magic Island / Ala Moana Beach Park – calm waters, picnic-friendly, and less crowded than central Waikiki.
  • Dining options nearby include Ala Moana Hotel’s Azure or local favorites in Ala Moana Center.

With this itinerary, Day 1 is active with hiking and a memorable sunset cruise, while Day 2 balances beach relaxation and upscale dining with minimal travel stress. You can adjust the pace depending on how energetic you feel after the hike.
