Hyatt Regency Miami

We are getting off cruise on 12/26 and plan a 1 day visit at Miami and next day to Everglades with a rental car.

I am thinking about staying overnight at Hyatt Regency Miami if it's safe and fun to do activities in the evening and early night with teenagers. If we can get most out of the day visit we can probably stay somewhere else other than downtown.

The Hyatt Regency Miami is a centrally located hotel in downtown Miami, right along the Miami River and within walking distance of several cultural attractions, dining options, and shopping areas. For a one-day visit with teenagers, it can be a practical choice, especially if your plan is to explore the city in the afternoon and evening.

Safety and activities:

  • Downtown Miami is generally safe in areas near major hotels and tourist attractions, though like any urban center, it’s wise to stay aware of your surroundings, especially after dark.
  • Within walking distance or a short drive, you’ll find Bayside Marketplace—a lively spot with shops, casual restaurants, and occasional live music. Teens often enjoy the waterfront atmosphere and the occasional street performers.
  • If you’re interested in museums, the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) is nearby and offers modern and contemporary art exhibits. It’s family-friendly and has an outdoor area overlooking Biscayne Bay.
  • The American Airlines Arena area and Brickell Key are also within reach if you want a short evening stroll or casual dining.

Alternative considerations if you want more activity for teenagers:

  • Staying closer to Miami Beach could provide more evening entertainment options, like Lincoln Road Mall for shopping, casual dining, and street performances.
  • South Beach also offers a lively atmosphere in the evening, with art deco architecture and people-watching opportunities, which can be fun for teens.
  • For a quieter option after a long day, staying downtown is convenient for easy access to your rental car and early morning drive to the Everglades.

In summary, Hyatt Regency Miami is safe and convenient for a short overnight stay with teenagers. You can enjoy downtown attractions and a relaxed evening. If your teens want a more bustling evening scene with restaurants, shops, and beach vibes, Miami Beach is an alternative to consider. Either way, you’ll be well-positioned to make the most of your day in Miami and your next day adventure in the Everglades.
