9 of China's most beautiful uninhabited areas, with few people, beautiful scenery and no crowds, perfect for National Day

Preface

I don't want to stay at home during the National Day holiday, nor do I want to go to the crowded scenic spots. I also want to take advantage of the long holiday to appreciate the charm of nature. Where should I go? A friend asked You Xiaojun a question.

Why not head to "No Man's Land"? Imagine yourself speeding along a road covered in sand, dust, and rocks, or perhaps a vast, mysterious place that feels like the end of the world. Let your body and mind completely relax and embark on a fantastic road trip! Isn't that amazing?

You Xiaojun has carefully prepared 9 legal and safe routes through uninhabited areas for you. Led by professional guides, follow China-TravelNote to explore the mysteries of the vast land!

1/Lop Nur + Altun No Man's Land

The Altun Nature Reserve is located in the southern part of the Altun Mountains and the northern part of the Eastern Kunlun Mountains, stretching from Ruoqiang in the west to Mangya in the east, with a total area of 44,940 square kilometers.

As the most mysterious and least known of China's four major "no man's lands", the Alxa No Man's Land is rarely talked about.

Surrounded by high mountains, it has glaciers, plateau lakes and desert geological landscapes. There are many kinds of rare birds and animals such as Tibetan antelopes, wild yaks, wild camels, black-necked cranes, Tibetan snowcocks, white-tailed eagles, etc., together with 241 species of wild plants, which are a wonder of the plateau.

Lop Nur, located in northeastern Ruoqiang County, Xinjiang, was once China's second-largest saltwater lake, covering an area of 2,400-3,000 square kilometers. It is renowned for its location on the ancient Silk Road, a key route in the eastern Tarim Basin. Long a mysterious region in China, it served as a nuclear testing site for China's two bombs and one satellite program, and is home to the renowned ancient city of Loulan and the Xiaohe cemetery. Its myriad histories and stories add to its mystique, awaiting future generations to explore.

Delve into the "Little River Cemetery" of Lop Nur and explore the Altun Mountains, one of the "Four Major Uninhabited Areas." Explore two uninhabited areas at once and encounter some of China's most stunning scenery.

2/Crossing the No Man's Land of Dahaidao

The 500-kilometer journey from Dunhuang to Turpan in the west constitutes the most legendary section of the Silk Road - the Dahaidao.

Along the way, you'll find ancient castles, beacon towers, post stations, prehistoric settlements, fossil mountains, mirages, herds of wild desert camels, and numerous other rare landforms. Among the many landforms along the Dahaidao, the wind-eroded castles are particularly unique. From a distance, some resemble ancient castles from Grimm's fairy tales, others resemble the mountainside palaces from The Lord of the Rings, and still others resemble massive warships in the sand sea... Here, your imagination will be endlessly captivated.

Although there is not much life in the vast and uninhabited Gobi Desert, nature has used its magical power to create many works standing in the desert.

There are ravines everywhere and it is deserted, so you can enjoy the carnival of solitude.

3/Crossing the Bashang No Man’s Land in Golden Autumn

Hunshandake in the Bashang No Man's Land is one of the four major deserts in my country. It is known as the "Jiangnan outside the Great Wall" and the "Garden Desert". There are no residents or network signals in the core area of the desert. It is the closest no-man's land to Beijing.

In a Mongolian yurt on the grassland, listen to the symphony of nature.

The Tengger Desert is located in western Inner Mongolia and central Gansu Province. It is bounded by the Helan Mountains and the Great Wall of Vietnam in the east and the Yabrai Mountains in the west. It is the fourth largest desert in China.

The Mongolians revere the "Cang Tian" (blue sky) as their eternal deity. "Tengger" means "sky" in Mongolian, describing the desert as "as vast and boundless as the sky." Contrary to popular belief, the Tengger Desert boasts over 400 lakes of varying sizes, surrounded by abundant grass and water, serving as the primary pastureland for the region. It's a truly remarkable sight to behold in the desert.

Camping under the stars, bonfire parties, sandboarding on the sand dunes, open-air movies, kayaking in the lake area... fun and beautiful scenery meet here.

Tranquil Tengger opens its vast arms, recording the stories of all who come here to explore its mysteries. The smoke of war rises in the desert, let's drink this bowl of desert wine.

9/Journey to Shennongjia

Shennongjia, located in western Hubei Province, is a mysterious and fascinating region. The best time to visit is from May to October, when the scenery is pristine and natural, and the temperature is stable.

Alpine meadows, wild man legends, countless elements give it endless mystery. In the cool autumn weather, you can see the mountains gradually changing into orange and yellow, creating a gradient of colors.

This time we will travel light and cross the Shennong No Man's Land. Porters will help you lighten the burden. We will just camp, stargaze, and have fun in the mountains, forging a brand new route with our own feet.

Climb to the top of Laojunzhai and watch the sunrise from Shennongding, accompanied by the sound of the river and the starry sky above your head. Every night spent in the mountains is worth it!
