It's one of the Seven Wonders of Nature. A direct three-hour flight from Beijing takes you to this legendary, divine lake, while a flight to the capital takes a full six hours.
The average summer temperature here is a mere 21°C, a vibrant and vibrant place. Throughout history, only briefly enjoyed by powerful dynasties like the Tang and Yuan dynasties, yet for over two thousand years, its beauty remains unforgettable.
Its four distinct seasons: spring buds sprout, summer brings shimmering blue waters, autumn brings golden birch trees, and winter is frozen in place by snow.
This is Lake Baikal
. I've been captivated by Li Jian's lyrics repeatedly, and it's my destiny. Its crescent-shaped lake is as graceful, agile, and elegant as the melody in the song, and its waters are crystal clear. Why not visit Lake Baikal
this summer or autumn ?
Lake Baikal, meaning "Rich Lake," boasts abundant fishery resources. Located in southern East Siberia, Russia, it's known as the "Pearl of Siberia" and was designated a World Heritage Site in 1996.
It's the world's deepest freshwater lake and the largest in Eurasia. While Taihu Lake has an average depth of 2 meters and Qinghai Lake 21 meters, Lake Baikal reaches a staggering 740 meters, with a maximum depth exceeding 1,640 meters—enough to accommodate two of the world's tallest buildings, the Burj Khalifa.
This is the secret behind its consistently high freshwater reserves: 33 times the total volume of all China's lakes combined! It holds over one-fifth of Earth's surface liquid freshwater!
Although Lake Baikal appears as a narrow strip on satellite images, standing at its edge, it remains boundless, hence the name "North Sea" in Han Dynasty historical texts.
Two of history's most famous shepherds both had a connection to the sea: Moses, who herded sheep and divided the sea, and the other, who lived not in Keketuohai but in the North Sea, Lake Baikal.
Su Wu, a Han Dynasty envoy, was dispatched by Emperor Wu of Han to the Xiongnu. However, he was detained and ordered to betray the Han dynasty and submit to the Xiongnu Chanyu. Su Wu, despite his emperor's orders, spent 19 years in exile at Lake Baikal, steadfastly upholding his integrity and ultimately returning to the Han dynasty, where his legacy lives on.
Lake Baikal is very close to Xinjiang and Mongolia, so a direct flight from Beijing takes only three hours—even less than flying to Southeast Asia!
There's even a "tough-assed college student" posting a budget-saving guide online: taking a bus and then a train for just over 400 yuan, a four-day, three-night trip to get there. (Actually, direct flights from Beijing are only around 1,000 yuan during the summer.)
The time at Lake Baikal is the same as that in Beijing, with no time difference. You can rush towards the scenery full of energy as soon as you land, and go to school or work full of energy as soon as you come back!
It doesn't matter if you're busy during the holidays. You don't need to take a lot of leave. You can enjoy the entire Lake Baikal in seven or eight days, especially during the National Day holiday 👉🏻Lake Baikal Golden Autumn Fairy Tale. Depart on September 30th and only need one day off!
Lake Baikal only requires an electronic visa, and the materials are very simple, including an electronic version of a two-inch photo with a white background, a visa materials form and an electronic version of the passport front page. The visa approval rate is close to 100%.
It is not difficult to buy Chinese food in supermarkets in most places in Russia, such as Khuzhir Village. You can also find Chinese restaurants with good reputations in Irkutsk.
Whether you travel independently or with a group, the cost of coming here is even lower than Southeast Asia. It is very playable and the overall cost-effectiveness is very good!
Many people are currently worried about the impact of the current global situation on tourism to Lake Baikal. I can assure you: go ahead and do it!
Lake Baikal is 3,000 to 4,000 kilometers from both Moscow and Ukraine, and the conflict took place within Ukraine. It's incredibly safe, even if it's so far away!
Furthermore, Russia itself has excellent public safety, and the locals are very welcoming to Chinese people.
Lake Baikal in summer is a great summer resort. The average temperature in July and August is only around 20 degrees Celsius. Who is still sweating and feeling upset? You can go straight to Lake Baikal in this summer!
In autumn, Lake Baikal is half covered with snow-capped mountains and half with autumn yellow. As the autumn wind blows, golden leaves dance lightly, the water ripples gently, and the brilliant colors of autumn light and shadow are fascinating.
