[Abashiri, Hokkaido] Abashiri Prison Museum & Prison Cafeteria

After arriving at Memanbetsu Airport, we headed there by rental car.
There is a large parking lot, and parking is free.
The appeal of Abashiri Prison is that you can learn about the history of Hokkaido's development. As shown in the photo, there is an explanation using dolls, which makes it easy to understand what life was like at that time. We also learned that many prisoners worked on building national roads to promote the development and settlement of Hokkaido, and many prisoners and administrators (prison guards) were sacrificed in the harsh working conditions.
Not only dolls but also 3D images are used to learn about the working conditions at that time.
We owe our lives in Hokkaido today to the infrastructure they built, and we must be grateful.
In addition, the attached prison cafeteria serves meals that are modeled after the meals served in the prison, and this time we had a set meal of Atka mackerel. The taste was light, but it was a good experience.
