The Abashiri Prison in Abashiri, Hokkaido's eastern Hokkaido area, is the only prison museum in Japan that was actually used and contributed greatly to the development of Hokkaido.
There are many exhibits both inside and outside the museum on the large grounds, so it is recommended to take your time to look around.
The dolls that look like they might start moving at any moment were a little scary.
It was strange to think that they actually lived in this frigid land.
I just happened to go there, but it was such an impressive place that it became a travel memory.
I recommend it.
