If the endless sea of lavender flowers connected to the sky is the symbol of Hokkaido's summer, then the most representative scenery of Hokkaido's spring is the sea of shibazakura.
"Higashimokoto Shibazakura Park" is located in northeastern Hokkaido, at the foot of Mt. Higashimokoto in Ozora Town on the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk. The moss phlox blooms around mid-May every year, with small, sweet flowers in red, pink and white.
The park is surrounded by small hills covered with shibazakura flowers. The area of planted shibazakura is as high as 10 hectares. When you reach the top of the hill, you can see shibazakura all over the mountain.
When the moss pinks are in full bloom, the charming scenery is like a pink carpet on the hillside. The park is filled with a faint floral fragrance, which is very attractive.
In conjunction with the flowering season, the annual "Shibazakura Festival" is held here, where you can fully enjoy the late spring in Hokkaido. In addition to shops selling local delicacies, the park also has many facilities such as go-karts, fishing grounds, hot springs, and a historical shrine.
Because Hokkaido is very cold in winter, there are few tourists except for the ski resorts, so this park is only open to the public from May 3rd to September 30th every year. #Overseas Travel #Japan Travel #Japan Good Places #Japan Travel Guide #Hokkaido Travel #Shibazakura #Cherry Blossoms
