🇦🇹 Austria | Loved the winter view from the hotel balcony

When I first visited Salzburg in December last year, I stumbled upon a little market town called Abtenau - about an hour from Salzburg city centre on Google Maps. I’m so glad I decided to go because it turned out to be the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city!

What surprised me even more was the hotel we stayed at - Hotel Goldener Stern. The gentleman who checked us in told us it’s a family-run place, which instantly gave it that warm, welcoming vibe.

🍽 The Ground Floor – The Restaurant
The entire ground floor is actually a restaurant that’s part of the hotel, and we ended up having dinner there every evening during our stay. The food (and desserts!) were absolutely amazing. We even heard that lots of locals drive there just for certain dishes, though I have to admit, I completely forgot the names. That alone says a lot!

🛏 The First Floor – The Rooms
Our room was on the first floor, and we got lucky with one that had a balcony overlooking the snowy mountains — honestly, it felt like something straight out of a winter movie. 🎬❄️
The room was spotless, the bed super comfy, and it stayed toasty warm even while it was snowing outside. Breakfast was included and everything tasted fresh and homemade. There’s also a lovely balcony area next to the breakfast room — too chilly to sit out in winter, but I can only imagine how beautiful it must be in spring when all the flowers bloom. 🌸

🧖♀️ Facilities
The hotel also has a sauna (and a small swimming pool), which is nice to have in winter.

💬 Overall Thoughts
Great service, delicious food, and very reasonable prices for a 4-star hotel. It honestly felt more like staying in someone’s cosy family home than in a hotel. I’d go back in a heartbeat! ❤️
