Located in Aswan, southern Egypt, this magnificent rock-cut temple complex was built by the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II.

Carved into the rock, it consists of the Great Temple, with its colossal seated statues of Ramses II flanking the facade, and the Small Temple for Queen Nefertari.

The sheer scale of this monument, said to be the beginning of World Heritage Sites, is overwhelming. ✨

The sheer size and sheer number of Ramses II statues reveal his assertive personality. 👏
Also, the fact that a queen statue was made the same size as the king's was unusual at the time, and it shows the immense love shown to the queen. 👍
