Wineries, Gourmet Food, and Relaxing Manor Time
After a long flight and layover, we finally arrived at Adelaide, the capital of South Australia.
Despite the exhausting journey, the first day of our trip was relaxing and full of surprises: wine tasting at a winery, a scenic manor lunch, a lakeside park stroll, and a visit to the supermarket to pick up daily essentials, transforming us from travelers to "locals."
This kind of first day is the perfect way to kick off a family trip.
✈️ Taipei → Singapore Layover → Adelaide: Flying with Singapore Airlines
Choosing Singapore Airlines was the most reassuring option for this long-haul flight.
The layover at Singapore Changi Airport gave the kids a chance to stretch their legs and explore. They had a blast at the airport's slide playground.
The in-flight meals and service were excellent, making the journey much more comfortable for parents traveling with children.
🍷 Chateau Yaldara Wine Tasting: A Family-Friendly "Tipsy Earth Tour"
Upon arriving in Adelaide, we headed straight to Barossa Valley, South Australia's renowned wine region.
Our first stop was the elegant and charming Chateau Yaldara winery. The beautiful architecture and serene environment were complemented by a rich selection of red and white wines for adults to taste.
The winery features expansive green spaces and outdoor seating, allowing kids to run freely on the grass while adults savor the robust flavors of South Australian wine and enjoy the vineyard views.
🥗 Horizon at 1837 Manor Lunch: A Refined Meal at a Scenic Restaurant
Lunch was at Horizon at 1837, a restaurant located within a vineyard. The open views and exquisite dishes made for a delightful experience.
We ordered: Australian Wagyu beef burger, lamb shoulder with rosemary sauce, fried calamari, and fries (the kids' favorite).
With a view of endless vineyards and green hills outside the window, dining under the vast Southern Hemisphere sky was truly a therapeutic moment during the trip.
🌊 Barossa Reservoir Park: Streams, Dams, and Peaceful Trails
After a satisfying meal, we visited Barossa Reservoir Park, famous for its "Whispering Wall," a fascinating acoustic feature. This is a great spot for family outings.
We strolled along the lakeside trails while the kids played in the water and enjoyed the echoing sounds, having endless fun. The tranquil scenery here, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, is perfect for slowing down and relaxing.
🛒 Coles Gawler Supermarket Shopping: Everyday Moments During Travel
Our last stop was the Coles supermarket (Gawler branch), a favorite among locals. We stocked up on essentials, fruits, and snacks for the next few days. The kids even picked out some Australia-exclusive cookies for a late-night treat.
In family trips, these small, everyday moments often become the most heartfelt and memorable experiences.
🏨 Accommodation: Carrington Three-Bedroom Apartment: Comfort is the Best Travel Ritual
Tonight, we stayed at the Carrington three-bedroom apartment in the city center. Spacious and well-equipped with a kitchen and laundry facilities, it was perfect for a family stay.
The kids immediately chose their rooms and ran around happily as if they were at home, while we enjoyed tea on the balcony, reminiscing about the fulfilling and joyful first day.
