My First Trip to Ulagai Wild Wolf Valley Cost Me 2000 RMB! What a Nightmare

Listen up, folks! If you're planning a trip to Ulagai Wild Wolf Valley, make sure you do your homework first, or you might end up getting scammed like I did! I was such a fool—on my first visit, I got tricked out of 2000 RMB, and just thinking about it still makes my heart ache 😭
💸【My Scam Experience】
When I arrived at the scenic area, I was approached by many overly enthusiastic locals offering to take me to see wild wolves hunting and even get up close with wolf cubs—all for just 500 RMB. Tempted by the idea, I thought, "I'm already here, and this is a rare opportunity," so I went along. But when we got there, the so-called "wild wolf hunt" turned out to be a staged performance with a few trained wolves—nothing like the real thing. And the "close encounter" with wolf cubs? Just a rushed photo op that lasted less than 5 minutes.
Later, I bought some things inside the scenic area—a regular bottle of water cost 20 RMB, and a simple fast-food meal was over 100 RMB. I felt totally ripped off 😡 The worst part? I booked a homestay outside the scenic area that was both shabby and expensive—800 RMB per night, and breakfast wasn’t even included.
😭 Learn from my mistakes, everyone! Don’t trust those pushy touts, and avoid spending recklessly inside the scenic area. Bring your own food and water if possible. For accommodation, book online in advance, read reviews carefully, and don’t fall into the same trap I did.
📸【Travel Tips】
1. Tickets: Check and compare ticket prices online beforehand—there might be discounts. I paid full price at the gate because I didn’t plan ahead. Big regret.
2. Attractions:
- Wolf Breeding Base: Observe wolves up close (behind wire fences), learn about their habits and breeding process, and see other animals in the nearby herbivore zoo. Great for photos!
- Wolf Park: A free-range wolf area where you can watch wolf packs running and playing from an elevated viewpoint—truly spectacular. You can even feed the wolves, but follow the staff’s instructions for safety.
- Mazong Mountain: The filming location for *Wolf Totem*, offering stunning views from the top where you can overlook the entire scenic area. Don’t forget to snap some pics here!
3. Itinerary: Take the sightseeing bus inside the scenic area to visit each stop in order—it’s convenient and ensures you don’t miss key spots. Start with the Wolf Breeding Base, then the Wolf Park, and end at Mazong Mountain.
4. Food: Try local specialties like roasted lamb and hand-grabbed meat at restaurants outside the scenic area—they’re much more affordable and authentic than the overpriced food inside.
5. Accommodation: Book hotels or homestays near the scenic area online in advance. Read reviews and choose one with good value for money. Don’t repeat my bad experience!
All in all, Ulagai Wild Wolf Valley is definitely worth visiting—just plan wisely to avoid scams and enjoy a fun, budget-friendly trip! Hope my story helps, and happy travels! 🎉
