Oishi Shrine in Ako is a place deeply tied to the legendary tale of the Chūshingura, honoring Ōishi Kuranosuke and the 47 rōnin who avenged their lord. Stepping onto the grounds feels like walking through a living chapter of samurai history.
Inside the treasure hall, you’ll find rare items including the iconic “47 Rōnin Folding Screen” depicting the loyal retainers in their iconic raid attire, and handwritten documents by Ōishi himself. Another highlight is the incredible set of life-sized wooden statues of the 47 loyal samurai, crafted by some of Japan’s top sculptors—each face full of emotion and character.
This shrine is not only a historical site but a moving tribute to loyalty, honor, and the enduring power of Japanese storytelling.
