Kumamoto Travel: Dinosaur Island Goshoura

To visit Goshoura, you need to take a ferry. If you want to bring your car, you should purchase a ticket for one of the three daily ferries that can accommodate vehicles. Tickets are not reserved in advance but are bought on the spot. Each ferry can carry about 20 vehicles, and boarding is on a first-come, first-served basis. During peak seasons, it’s recommended to arrive at the port at least 30 minutes before the departure time.

Goshoura Dinosaur Island Museum
At Goshoura, you can see fossils excavated from Amakusa. The variety is impressive and overwhelming. The facility has been recently renovated and is very stylish. Inside the museum, there are capsule toy machines with adorable keychains, making them great souvenirs.

At the Trigonia Fossil Collection Site, you can encounter numerous fossils from the Goshoura Formation. The staff will explain the fossils you collect, making it an engaging experience for adults as well. You’ll receive a card for the fossils you find, and rare fossils come with shiny cards. Goshoura is a fantastic island for fossil and dinosaur enthusiasts. The sea is also incredibly beautiful, making it a perfect destination.
