The Sichuan Song Porcelain Museum was originally the Suining City Museum. Its transformation came after the remarkable discovery of the Jinyu Village Hoard in the 1990s, which yielded a vast collection of Song Dynasty celadon and other porcelain pieces. This excavation significantly enriched the museum's collection in both quantity and variety. The unearthed Song Dynasty celadon pieces are notable for their large numbers, comprehensive types, exquisite craftsmanship, and excellent preservation, directly supporting an entire exhibition floor. Consequently, the Suining City Museum was renamed the Sichuan Song Porcelain Museum.

The Sichuan Song Porcelain Museum houses 10,032 cultural relics, including 31 national first-class artifacts, 342 national second-class artifacts, and 1,063 national third-class artifacts.
The main exhibits feature the late Southern Song Dynasty porcelain and bronze hoard excavated from Jinyu Village in Suining in September 1991. Highlights include the Longquan celadon lotus leaf-covered jar, dragon-handled gui-style censer, and Jingdezhen bluish-white porcelain prunus vases.
As China's premier specialized Song porcelain museum, it boasts six exhibition halls covering 3,300 square meters, divided into five sections: "Reading Porcelain, Listening to Porcelain, Appreciating Porcelain, Making Porcelain, and Evaluating Porcelain."
