I just discovered Anamur—a peaceful town where turquoise waters meet medieval history and lush farmland. With its stunning castle, sea turtle beaches, and slow-paced vibe, it was the ideal solo destination for sun, solitude, and a step back in time.
What Makes Anamur Special?
· Mamure Castle: One of Turkey’s best-preserved medieval castles, right on the sea—with towers, a mosque, and ghostly charm.
· Anemurium: Vast ancient Roman ruins with mosaics, tombs, and an theater overlooking the Mediterranean.
· Banana Plantations: Anamur is Turkey’s banana capital—endless green fields and fresh fruit everywhere.
· Turtle Beach: Ören Beach is a nesting site for loggerhead sea turtles (May–October).
Why Anamur for Solo Travelers?
· Safe & Relaxed: A small-town feel with friendly locals and minimal tourism.
· Easy to Explore: Rent a bike or use local dolmuş (minibuses) to reach sites.
· Inexpensive: Accommodation, food, and transport are very affordable.
· Perfect Mix: History, nature, beach time, and great food—all in one place.

My Solo Itinerary
Day 1: Castles & Ancient Cities
· Morning: Visited Mamure Castle—climbed the towers, walked the walls, and explored the inner courtyard and mosque.
· Afternoon: Took a dolmuş to Anemurium Ancient City—wandered through Byzantine baths, tombs, and stunning mosaics with sea views.
· Evening: Ate fresh fish at a seaside restaurant near the castle.
Day 2: Beaches & Bananas
· Morning: Rented a bike and cycled through banana plantations—stopped to taste and buy fresh bananas and citrus.
· Afternoon: Relaxed at Ören Beach (quiet and clean)—swam, read, and watched for turtles (seasonal).
· Evening: Explored the local Thursday Market (if timed right) for spices, textiles, and handmade goods.
---
Solo Traveler Tips
1. Rent a Bike or Scooter: The best way to explore the coast and countryside.
2. Sun Protection: Hat, sunscreen, and water—the Mediterranean sun is strong.
3. Carry Cash: Many smaller places don’t accept cards.
4. Try Local Specialties: Banana bread, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and barbunya pilaki (bean salad).

Final Thoughts
Anamur was a breath of fresh air—a place where I could explore ancient ruins in the morning, nap on a quiet beach in the afternoon, and eat fresh fruit as the sun set. For solo travelers looking for authenticity and calm, it’s a little slice of Mediterranean heaven.
