Harbors & History: My Solo Trip to Phaselis

#mytraveldiary

I just walked in the footsteps of ancient traders and emperors at Phaselis—a stunning coastal ruin with three natural harbors, a grand Roman avenue, and the shade of pine trees. It was the perfect solo day trip for swimming, exploring, and dreaming of the past.

What Makes Phaselis Special?

· Three Ancient Harbors: The North, War, and South Harbors—each with crystal-clear water and ruins along the shore.
· Roman Aqueduct & Avenue: Walk the main street that once connected the harbors, lined with ruins of shops, baths, and theaters.
· Easy Accessibility: Just 35 minutes from Antalya or 15 minutes from Kemer.
· Swimming + History: Combine ruin-hopping with dips in the Mediterranean—bring your swimsuit!

Why Phaselis for Solo Travelers?

· Safe & Manageable: The site is compact, well-marked, and easy to explore alone.
· Photogenic: Azure sea, green pines, and golden stone—every angle is beautiful.
· Relaxed Vibe: Few crowds compared to other ancient sites—perfect for quiet reflection.
· Affordable: Entry fee is reasonable, and you can pack a picnic.

My Solo Itinerary

Morning: Ruins & Roman Roads

· Took a bus or dolmuş from Antalya or Kemer to the Phaselis entrance.
· Walked the main colonnaded avenue from the South Harbor to the North Harbor—passing the agora, baths, and theater.
· Climbed to the acropolis for panoramic views of the coast and ruins.

Afternoon: Swim & Sun

· Picnicked under the pines (bring water + snacks—limited facilities inside).
· Swam in the South Harbor—clear, calm water right beside ancient walls.
· Snorkeled around the stone piers—sometimes fish dart through submerged ruins!

Evening: Return with Memories

· Headed back to Antalya or Kemer by late afternoon.
· Stopped for a fresh-squeezed juice or Turkish ice cream (dondurma) on the way.
· If staying in the area, watched the sunset at Kemer Public Beach or Antalya Harbor.

Solo Traveler Tips

1. Wear Swimwear Under Your Clothes: You’ll want to swim!
2. Comfortable Sandals: For walking on ancient stones and sandy paths.
3. Sun Protection: Hat, sunscreen, and water—shade is limited on the main avenue.
4. Arrive Early or Late: Avoid midday heat and tour groups.

Final Thoughts

Phaselis was a beautiful blend of culture and relaxation. Wandering through pine-scented ruins and swimming in harbors where Roman ships once docked felt like a secret gift to myself. For solo travelers who love history without the hustle, Phaselis is a little piece of paradise.
