Known as the "White City," Arequipa features a unique blend of historical districts and local areas separated by a river, offering visitors a chance to experience contrasting atmospheres simply by walking around.
The historical district of Arequipa, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is adorned with colonial architecture built from white volcanic stone. The picturesque streets are so captivating that you'll find yourself stopping to admire the scenery. Along the cobblestone roads, stylish cafes invite you to relax and enjoy a leisurely time at their terrace seating.
Unfortunately, I couldn't visit the Santa Catalina Monastery, the largest monastery in South America, due to timing issues. But next time, I’m determined to make it happen!
Arequipa exudes a refined and tranquil charm, distinct from Lima or Cusco. Beyond its tourist attractions, the sheer beauty of the city itself made for a truly soothing day. ✨
