People who love green roads are creating a comfortable space for the citizens of Asahikawa in the future.
Located in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, "The Green Street of Youth" is a serene and picturesque road that serves as a testament to the city's commitment to creating a comfortable and green space for its citizens. Established in May 2014, this street is dedicated to the great poet Tetsuro Nishikawa, who was born in Shinjotoge, Ashibetsu City in 1947. Nishikawa, inspired by French poets like Rimbaud and Baudelaire, began writing Haiku and Tanka along the Ishikar River and Seven-Jo Green Street. He produced over 20,000 poems, surpassing even the works of Edo Era poet Issa Kobayashi. His collection, "Seventeen Syllables of World Literature," is celebrated alongside the works of renowned poets such as Toho, Rihaku, Saigyo, and Basho. When writer Seichi Morimura visited Asahikawa in 2010, he hailed Nishikawa's oeuvre as a Japanese literature legacy, leading to the renaming of Seven-Jo Green Street to "The Green Street of Youth." This beautiful, verdant pathway not only honors Nishikawa's literary contributions but also offers a tranquil retreat for residents and visitors alike.
