According to shrine records, Aso Shrine was founded in the ninth year of the Joseon Emperor (282 BC), and has a history of approximately 2,300 years. It is the head shrine of approximately 500 Aso Shrines across Japan. If you go there, you can see the main gate of Aso Shrine from the streets of Ichinomiya-cho Miyaji. Aso Shrine has a long history and there are nearly 500 shrines in Kumamoto Prefecture.
In 1982 (Showa 57), it was designated as an "Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property" by the national government. It was damaged by an earthquake in 2016 and reopened in 2024. It has now been renovated and reopened to the public, and the wooden building is truly magnificent. Although it rained all day, the beauty of Aso and the fresh air made the Aso Shrine even more majestic in the rain.
There are so many types of divination lots that everyone loves. Remember to pay money to draw the lot, and keep the one you draw if you get the last one. According to Japanese culture, if you draw a bad fortune that you don't want to take with you, you can tie it here. That is, the good ones are taken away and the bad ones are left in the original temple. The amulets sold there are very beautifully embroidered, and there are many styles to choose from.
