A must-visit destination in the southern course of Bali is none other than the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park (GWK Cultural Park).
This iconic landmark of Bali features a colossal statue depicting Vishnu, a Hindu deity, and Garuda, a mythical eagle, creating a breathtaking spectacle.
Key Highlights of GWK Park:
* Impressive Scale: The main attraction of GWK is undoubtedly the Vishnu statue. Standing at a staggering height of 121 meters, it is one of the tallest statues in the world. Looking up at it from below inspires awe. There’s also an 'Ultimate Ticket' option that allows you to explore the exhibits inside the statue.
* A Photographer’s Paradise, Lotus Pond: The 'Lotus Pond,' a massive pond stretching from the entrance, serves as the main photo spot of GWK. The Vishnu statue towering amidst the expansive plaza makes it the perfect place to capture stunning shots.
* A Space for Culture and Art: This is not just a park but a venue to experience Bali’s rich culture and traditions. Traditional Balinese dances and performances are held on the park’s stage at scheduled times, so be sure to check the timings to enjoy the artistic side of Bali.
* Best Time to Visit: I visited in the morning, but the park is vast, and it gets very hot during midday. I highly recommend visiting in the late afternoon (around 4-5 PM) when the sun begins to set. The golden sunset reflecting on the cliffs and statue is truly magical, and in the evening, the lighting enhances the grandeur of the night view.
GWK Park is a unique destination where you can simultaneously experience Bali’s art, religious significance, and architectural magnificence. Take a leisurely stroll and immerse yourself in the stunning scenery of southern Bali!
