📍 Kampung Ayer Floating Village
Known as the "Venice of the East", it is one of the largest existing floating villages
The history can be traced back to the 8th century, and it was also the earliest political and economic center of Brunei.
It can be said that this is one of the must-see itineraries when visiting Brunei.
My friends from Hong Kong and I visited the place twice!
_
💡 Let me briefly talk about the current situation and challenges here
Today, Kampong Ayer consists of about 30 villages.
Connected by 30 km of wooden trails
Form a large self-sufficient community
Despite the government's promotion and modernization drive
Many people still choose to continue living here.
But we also face:
Problems such as population migration, loss of traditional culture and environmental pollution
_
The reason I visited twice is because this place is so big.
We want to see the whole picture here.
In the end, I can't say 100%, but 80% should be gone.
To be honest, the environment here is really not that good.
Water pollution, floating garbage, dilapidated plank roads, broken bricks and tiles
This is the other side of the oil country
After the transfer of political and economic centers, the past glory remains here
It can be said that this is a country that embraces tradition in the modern era.
This is also one of Brunei’s cultural symbols.
