You don’t have to be a mountaineer to see it — just walk the Lake Louise shoreline
Best up-close views via:
Plain of Six Glaciers Trail (13.8 km round trip)
Ends at a historic tea house near the glacier
Moderate difficulty, ~4–5 hours round trip
Classic Alpine Glacier
Large, crevassed, and flowing down from the continental divide
Feeds Lake Louise, which gets its brilliant turquoise color from glacial silt (rock flour)
Photographer's Dream
Reflections of the glacier in Lake Louise are world-famous
Especially stunning in early morning or late evening light
Part of a Larger Alpine Adventure Zone
Near other top hikes: Lake Agnes, Big Beehive, Sentinel Pass
Mountaineers sometimes climb Mount Victoria and cross the glacier
Good base for exploring more of Banff National Park and the Icefields Parkway
