📜 History & Architecture

Opened in 1888 by the Canadian Pacific Railway as one of its grand railway hotels.

Original building was designed by Bruce Price.

In 1926, a fire destroyed part of the original structure; subsequent wings/new structures were added in 1914 (tower), 1927/28 (north & south wings) by other architects like Walter S. Painter and John Orrock.

Designed in “Châteauesque” style — like many of the famous rail-hotels in Canada.

Recognized as a National Historic Site of Canada in 1988.
