Wat Phra Kaew, or Wat Phra Kaew, was graciously commissioned by King Rama I to build it alongside the founding of Rattanakosin in 1782. It is located within the grounds of the Grand Palace.
Inside the ubosot (ordination hall) is the Emerald Buddha, a meditative Buddha image made entirely of a single green gemstone. The lap width is 48.3 cm, and the height from base to top of the head is 66 cm. It is enshrined in a golden pavilion.
This is one of Bangkok's recommended tourist attractions, offering worship to the Emerald Buddha and admiring the temple's beauty.
