Wat Sao Hin, a temple from the U Thong period in the heart of Bangkok

#Winter travel destinations
- Wat Prachasattharam is located at the base of Rama VII Bridge, Bang Sue Subdistrict, Bang Sue District, Bangkok. Its original name was “Wat Sao Hin” because there were many ancient stone pillars inside the temple.
- There is no record of the history of the temple, such as when it was built or who built it, but some estimate that it was built during the late Ayutthaya period or early Rattanakosin period, which is more than 200 years old.
- Inside the temple grounds, there is a sacred shrine called “Phra Chao U Thong Shrine”. There is a statue of Phra Chao U Thong who migrated from U Thong to escape the plague (cholera) and stopped here to rest. He planned to use this area to build a city in Nong Son Subdistrict, which will become Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya.
As for Phra Chao U Thong, he is located in the middle of the left-hand entrance to the temple. It is said that he is sacred and always brings good fortune to those who come to pay homage.
