Watpathumwanaram Ratchaworawihan was founded by King Rama IV. His Majesty ordered the Chinese to dig the outer and inner ponds in the royal rice fields. He ordered the construction of pavilions, houses, and various types of lotus🪷 in the inner pond and designated it as his personal royal palace. He named this area Pathumwan and ordered the construction of Watpathumwanaram on the western bank of the outer pond to bestow on Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

The ordination hall is in the Rattanakosin style. The principal Buddha image is a cast Buddha image called Phra Sai (Phra Sai), which has been revered by the locals for a long time.
