This time I came to Bangkok, I mainly wanted to take a leisurely walk and see more of this city. I didn’t need anything too luxurious, nor did I want to just visit shops. The itinerary was relatively casual, but I was able to feel the culture and characteristics of Bangkok.
Day 1|Historical and cultural exploration + night cruise
🚄Arrived in Bangkok: Take the early morning flight of Hong Kong Express, and call a Bolt taxi directly after getting off the plane. It is cheaper than the airport taxi and arrives in the city in 30 minutes.
Hotel to stay in | Sindhorn Midtown Hotel: Located in Chit Lom, it has reasonable prices, new rooms, and an infinity pool, making it suitable for a short stay.
📍Bangkok Grand Palace & Wat Phra Kaew: You must visit here once when you come to Bangkok. The architecture is gorgeous and magnificent, especially the Buddha statue in Wat Phra Kaew, which is full of history. It is recommended to come early in the morning to avoid the crowds. Girls should remember to wear long skirts or trousers, otherwise you will have to rent a salon.
Lunch | Street food near the Royal Palace: Try Thai fried rice noodles, boat noodles or coconut ice cream to experience the local flavor.
📍Wat Arun: Take a boat across the river to reach the "Temple of Dawn", one of the most representative temples in Thailand. The white tower body with ceramic decorations is very special and most beautiful at dusk.
Night Activities | Chao Phraya Princess Dinner Cruise: Take a night cruise on the Chao Phraya River, where you can enjoy a Thai buffet while appreciating the night view of the river. Along the way, you will pass by the Grand Palace and Wat Arun. The scenery is super beautiful and the atmosphere is great.
Day 2|Vintage Market + Popular Check-in Spots
• Breakfast | Hotel breakfast: Take it easy and eat slowly before leaving.
📍Maeklong Railway Market: This is a market built on railway tracks. When the train passes by, the vendors will quickly pack up their sheds. The scene is super shocking! The train passes around 10:30, so it’s recommended to arrive early!
📍Amphawa Floating Market: About 15 minutes’ drive from Maeklong Railway Market, this is more authentic than the floating market in the city. You can see traditional wooden boats selling Thai snacks and handicrafts, and the atmosphere is very good.
Lunch | Thai snacks in the market: Have a simple meal at the floating market, such as grilled seafood and mango sticky rice, to experience the local market culture.
Back to downtown Bangkok | Rest + free time: After returning to the city, you can find a coffee shop near Siam Paragon to sit down, or go to a massage parlor for a Thai massage to relax before going to the airport.
Return trip | Take a flight back to Hong Kong at night: The flight is around 8-9pm, so the trip won’t be too rushed and you can fully enjoy the last moments.
Overall impression
This trip was mainly about history and culture + local markets. We didn't go to high-end restaurants or shops specifically, but the itinerary was very rich. We could feel the royal culture of Bangkok and experience the local market style. Taking a flight back to Hong Kong at night, no need to rush, it feels just right!
