While wondering what to eat on my last evening in Bangkok, I visited Lay Lao Ari branch, which has been selected for the Michelin Bib Gourmand for 8 consecutive years. It is only a 5-minute walk from BTS Ari Station, so it is easily accessible, and the clean and modern interior already makes me excited!
The menu I ate this time!! Everything was a success.
• Signature fried squid
The visuals were perfect from the start! The squid was soft and fresh inside the crispy batter. The special sauce that came with it was slightly sweet and sour, but also had a deep savory flavor, so I couldn't stop eating without feeling greasier. Personally, it was the most impressive menu I ate that day.
• Grilled pork neck
The meat was juicy and the texture was soft. The outside had a slight smoky flavor, and the inside was moist, so it was really delicious when eaten with rice. It had a uniquely Thai salty taste, so it would be good as a drinking snack.
• Pork Pad Thai
Usually, Pad Thai is served with a lot of shrimp, but the pork pad Thai here had a harmonious combination of rich and chewy pork and noodles. The slightly sweet sauce, bean sprouts, peanuts, and lime went well together, so the flavor was alive, and it wasn't greasy, so I enjoyed it until the end.
• Morning Glory (Stir-fried Hollow Cabbage)
This is one of the menus I always eat when I come to Thailand, but here, the garlic flavor is strong and the seasoning is not too strong, so it was good to have with the main dish. The texture is crunchy and the seasoning is just right, so it whets my appetite even more.
• Omelette
A typical Thai omelet with a moist inside and slightly crispy outside. It has a good flavor even without any other ingredients, and it goes really well with rice. It was simple but had a high level of perfection.
Overall Review
Overall, the freshness of the ingredients was felt, and the sweet and salty taste was perfect for Koreans. The price range is also very reasonable for a Michelin restaurant. (You can eat your fill for about 400-600 baht per person. I recommend ordering a variety of dishes.)
The staff were also friendly, and they recommended menus when ordering, so I was able to enjoy it without any burden as a traveler. If you want to experience local sensibility + Michelin quality in Bangkok, I highly recommend Lei Lao!
