“Dancing in the Light”

by artist Niam Mawornkhon

Inspired by a fondness for polar bears, the artist formed a connection with them through internet photos and curiosity about their white color, leading to a series of paintings of polar bears in various shades in “Dancing in the Light.”

The exhibition invites us to explore the dreamy world of polar bears through the artist’s distinctive style, which uses light and shadow to create a delicate atmosphere. The technique of blurring parts of the image makes it appear as if the picture is slowly moving or flowing, like a memory or a dream. The use of primary colors and RGB light techniques (Red, Green, and Blue) creates a blurred, illusionary effect, yet is filled with emotion at the same time. The polar bears in this work emphasize emotional truth rather than realism.

The artist’s polar bears represent not only dreams and pure love but also symbolize fragility, much like real polar bears facing the climate crisis and habitat loss. They serve as a reminder to see the beauty of things that are fading away and may never return.

In addition to the works in “Dancing in the Light,” there is also a special series titled "White Dust" exhibited alongside. This series was created during a time when the artist began questioning the sharp realism of screen-generated information. This perfect detail felt empty to him. The memories of the past that sparked imagination and were full of joy are what the artist longs for.
