[Route Overview]
From SATHORN PIER, directly connected to BTS Saphan Taksin Station, board the electric ferry loved by local commuters and reach Tha Tien Pier (ท่าเรือท่าเตียน/N8) in about 15 minutes. This refreshing route avoids road traffic jams and offers a view of Wat Arun across the Chao Phraya River. The fare is a flat 30 THB one way, and tickets are cash only, so be sure to have small bills ready.
[Boarding Procedure]
📍Pay 30 THB at the ticket booth and receive a receipt-type ticket
📍Pass through the ticket gate and follow the staff’s instructions in the boarding queue
📍After boarding, sit in the air-conditioned cabin in the center for a smoother and more comfortable ride
[Onboard & During the Ride]
The cabin with green seats is clean and some seats have USB ports. Early morning around 7 AM is less crowded, making it a great time for photography.
Sitting on the starboard side offers a panoramic view including River City and the spires of historic churches, making the short ride feel even shorter.
[After Arriving at Tha Tien Pier]
Exit Tha Tien and walk 100 meters to the left to reach the main gate of Wat Pho.
Small boats to the opposite bank also depart from the same pier, allowing for a smooth half-day tour combining Wat Arun and the Grand Palace area.
The return trip departs from the same pier, so there’s no need to worry about getting lost.
[Summary]
The 30 THB, 15-minute ferry is perfect for avoiding Bangkok’s often congested traffic. It’s the best route to save both time and money while enjoying stunning riverside views.
If you’re heading to Wat Pho from Saphan Taksin, be sure to experience the river breeze and the dynamic water transport.
