Experience it for 300B! The Golden Reclining Buddha - Complete Guide to Visiting and Photography at Wat Pho

[Access & Basic Information]

Wat Pho is accessible via BTS Saphan Taksin Station → Ferry → a 5-minute walk from Tha Tien Pier.
As of 2025, the entrance fee is 300 THB, and the gates open from 08:00 to 18:30.
The ticket booth next to the entrance accepts cash only,
so prepare small bills.
Tickets come with a free bottled water voucher.

[Preparation for Worship and Route]

Remove your shoes in front of the main hall and carry them in the provided bag.
If you enter between 08:00 and 09:00 before the crowds,
you can photograph the 46-meter-long Reclining Buddha almost unobstructed.
The stone statue gate next to the main gate is a landmark.

[Top 3 Photography Spots]

📍Head side: Using an ultra-wide-angle lens to capture the golden face and murals in a vertical composition emphasizes the solemnity.
📍Soles of the feet with 108 images: The mother-of-pearl inlay reflects strongly, so keep ISO low and use a shutter speed around 1/60 to preserve details.
📍Middle torso: Natural light from the windows evenly captures the texture of the gold leaf. In the morning, standing with the east wall behind you prevents backlighting.

[Worship Etiquette and Tips]

📍It is believed that placing one coin into each of the 108 bowls lined up behind the Reclining Buddha accumulates merit (currency exchange is on the left inside the hall).
📍If your shoulders or knees are exposed, you can borrow a stole at the entrance, but since the number is limited, bringing a cover-up is recommended.
📍The corridor around the main hall features detailed murals depicting royal history (photography allowed), making it a textbook of Thai art history along with the Reclining Buddha.

[Estimated Time Model]

Ticket purchase (5 minutes) → Main hall visit & photography (25 minutes) → Offering to 108 bowls (5 minutes) → Corridor mural viewing (5 minutes).
You can cover the highlights in a total of 40 minutes.
If time permits, you can add a 30-minute authentic massage at the temple’s massage school for 250 THB and still finish within 90 minutes.

[Summary]

Many say the Reclining Buddha is "too big to photograph," but if you choose the right time and position, both photos and worship are comfortable.
Please experience the breathtaking scale and artistic value worth the 300 THB.
