Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan has a long history dating back to the Ayutthaya period. It was originally called "Wat Makok." Later, during the reign of King Taksin the Great, it was renamed "Wat Chaeng" when the capital was moved to Thonburi. In the reign of King Rama II, it was renovated and renamed "Wat Arun Ratchatharam." During King Rama IV's reign, further renovations were made, and the name was changed to "Wat Arun Ratchawararam," which is the name used today.
