Bangkok, Thailand is a world-renowned tourist and vacation city, attracting thousands of visitors every day for sightseeing and holidays. Bangkok has many historic temples and attractions, and this time we introduce a temple attraction in Bangkok: Wat Don Mueang. No admission ticket is required; it is free to visit and take photos. The temple is close to a bus stop, making transportation very convenient. Shoes must be removed before entering the main hall of the temple building.
The Reclining Buddha statue at Wat Don Mueang is a common type built by Buddhists for temples. The right hand supports the head. The body is stretched out straight. The feet are evenly stacked together, but the toes are neatly bent. It is placed on a lotus base decorated with patterns and grids. The overall color is gold, about 2.5 meters long, and forms an arch adorned with lace. It is enshrined in the merit hall for Buddhists to come and pay respects to the Buddha statue.
Wat Don Mueang is a royal temple. It has a Chaturmukha-style grand prayer hall. The Buddha statue sits in a meditative posture on a lotus seat, and the glass house on the lotus seat is decorated with beautiful and delicate Kanok patterns. In front of the main Buddha statue are statues of Luang Pu Klaew and Phra Khru Phon. Above the windows surrounding the important monk’s inner hall of Wat Don Mueang are murals depicting various experiences of the Buddha’s life. In front of the temple is a Khmer-style stone lion with a peculiar shape. Further down is a giant named Thao Wessuwan. Green and red, along with many other animals, are present. At the temple entrance, there is a bell-shaped stupa with arches in four directions. Below it should be a temple, but it was not open for entry on the day we visited. There is a place for making merit presided over by Phra Kaew Song Khruang.
