- Wat Rakhang is an ancient temple in Bangkok dating back to the Ayutthaya period. It is one of the temples popular for making merit and a temple you should visit when traveling to Bangkok.
- This temple was originally called Wat Bang Wa Yai. During the reign of King Taksin the Great (1767–1782), he built a palace nearby, so the temple was restored and elevated to a royal monastery.
- In the reign of King Rama I (1782–1809), a large bell was discovered within the temple grounds.
- This bell was moved to Wat Phra Kaew, and during King Rama I’s reign, he donated five new bells to replace it. These five bells are still hanging in the bell tower to this day.
