🏘 Wat Dao Khanong was built around 1767, during the late Ayutthaya period. The name of the founder is unknown.
🏞 The temple is located along the Chao Phraya River and was once surrounded by neem trees. People who docked their boats in front of the temple often paid respects to the neem trees and covered them with gold leaf. Hence, the temple was initially called Wat Sadetong (Golden Neem Temple).
🐊 Later, a story emerged about a crocodile that frequently caused havoc in the river bend near the temple. A young man fought the crocodile, causing water to splash and scatter like stars. This led to the temple being renamed Wat Dao Khanong (Temple of Scattered Stars).
Key attractions and significant features within the temple include:
🏠 The ordination hall (Ubosot): The structure features load-bearing walls, a single-tiered roof, and two levels. The eaves extend around the building. The gables at the front and back are adorned with stucco designs of trees, leaves, and porcelain.
🧱 The front and back of the ordination hall have porches extending outward, with lion-shaped bases supporting the structure. The Buddhist sanctuary area is enclosed by a decorative wall, with small, square-based stupas at each of the four corners.
